Nach unserem Abstecher in die Baja California, sind wir Mitte März wieder in den USA. Die ideale Zeit um ins Death Valley zu fahren, denn es hat dort geregnet und die Wüste blüht. Unser Sohn Tim hat gerade ein paar Tage frei und kommt uns besuchen.
It is mid March and we are back in the US after returning from our side trip to Baja California. Death Valley got some rain this year and it is a good time for a visit since the desert is in bloom. Our son Tim has some days off and decides to join us.
Als größter Nationalpark südlich von Alaska ist Death Valley bekannt für seine Extreme: Es ist der heißeste und trockenste Ort Nordamerikas mit weniger als 50 mm Niederschlag pro Jahr und der bisher gemessenen Höchsttemperatur von 57 Grad Celsius. Während die Gipfel mehr als 3.000 m erreichen, ist das eigentliche Death Valley eine Senke, die bei Badwater 282 Fuß unter dem Meeresspiegel liegt.
As the largest national park south of Alaska, Death Valley is known for its extremes: It is the hottest and driest place in North America with less than 2 inches of rain per year and the highest ever recorded temperature of 134 Fahrenheit. As the peaks surrounding the valley top 9,000 feet, the actual Death Valley is a hollow reaching 282 feet below sea level at Badwater Basin.
Trotz des abschreckenden Namens hat uns die Schönheit dieses Tals begeistert. Außer dem 518 km² großen einstigen Salzsee findet man hier durch Erosion geformte Felsen, farbenprächtige Canyons und Sanddünen.
Even though the name is pretty discouraging, the beauty of the valley caught our enthusiasm. In addition to the 200 mi² big dry saltlake you will find rock formations formed by erosion, colourful canyons as well as sanddunes.
Frühstück beim Devils Golf Course - kein Baum, kein "Green", nur verkrustete Salzformationen die übrig geblieben sind als der See austrocknete...Golf spielen würde ich hier lieber nicht!!
Breakfast at Devils Golf Course - no tree, no green, only incrusted saltformations which were formed when the lake dries up...I wouldn't play golf here!!
Dieser Teil des Salzsees bietet kontrastreiche Bedingungen für interessante "Foto-Shootings"...
This part of the saltlake provides high contrast conditions for interesting photo shootings....
Doch am meisten Spaß hatten wir dabei, immer wieder andere Blumenarten zu entdecken. Ein Regenschauer in der Wüste wirkt Wunder....
However, the biggest fun was to explore the vast flower species. A rainshower in the desert will change everything....
