Via Arizona to Los Angeles
Das Chiricahua National Monument liegt auf unserem Weg nach Los Angeles. Wir haben es nicht eilig und schauen mal vorbei. Ein paar Wanderwege gibt es in diesem Felsenlabyrinth auch - wir sind überrascht wie abwechslungsreich und hübsch es ist.
Enroute to Los Angeles is the Chiricahua NM. We are not in a hurry and decide to make a stop over. There are a couple of hiking trails in this rock labyrinth - we are positively surprised of the beauty and diversity of this area.

Mit Susan und Scott erkunden wir die Sonora Wüste bei Yuma. Hier haben wir die ideale Gelegenheit unser Motorrad zu nutzen. Es hat gerade geregnet und in der Wüste beginnt es zu blühen.
We explore, together with Susan and Scott, the Sonora desert near Yuma - a great opportunity to use our motor bike. It rained recently and the desert starts to turn green.
Mitte Dezember kommen wir in Los Angeles an. Statt auf Feldwegen zu fahren, müssen wir uns auf sechsspurige (in eine Richtung) Autobahnen/Blechlawinen einreihen. Los Angeles ist sehr weitläufig und mangels öffentlicher Transportmittel sind Zeit und Geduld im dichten Verkehr gefragt. Sollte man unglücklicherweise während der "Rush Hour" unterwegs sein, kann sich die Fahr-/Stehzeit auch schon mal verdreifachen.
We arrive in Los Angeles by mid December. Instead of driving on back county roads, we now have to join the queue on six lane (one way) highways/solid line of cars. The metropolitan area of Los Angeles spreads over a vast area and the lack of sufficient public transport requires plenty of time and patience to navigate the heavy traffic. If you happen to be on the road during the rush hours, your time in a car driving or standing in a traffic jam can easily triple.
Wir lassen uns nicht einschüchtern und besuchen zuerst das Getty Center - eine der größten Sammlungen amerikanischer und europäischer Kunst - ursprünglich entstanden aus der Privatsammlung des Ölmagnaten und Kunstliebhaber Jean Paul Getty (1892-1976). An Geld scheint es bei der Umsetzung nicht gemangelt zu haben, der architektonisch gelungene Bau wurde 1997 eröffnet und hat ca 1 Milliarde Dollar gekostet.
The traffic does not put us off and we first visit the Getty Center - one of the world's largest collection of American and European art from the private collection of the late Jean Paul Getty (1892-1976), oil tycoon and passionate art collector. Money didn't seem to be an issue when designing and building the architectural masterpiece which opened in 1997 at an estimated total cost of 1 billion dollar.
Wenn wir schon mal in Los Angeles sind, möchten wir uns auch unbedingt Hollywood und die Filmstudios anschauen. Der Glanz und Ruhm, der Hollywood voraus eilt, haben wir nicht gefunden. Eine Tour bei Paramount Pictures hat uns jedoch einen interessanten Einblick hinter die Kulissen und in die Kunst der Filmindustrie gegeben. So finden wir uns zB in New York wieder, vor dem Gebäude aus dem Film "Frühstück bei Tiffany".
If we drive all the way to Los Angeles, we have to visit Hollywood and the film studios. We couldn't find the glamor and glory of Hollywood though. A tour at Paramount Pictures however, gives us an interesting insight behind the scenes and into the "art" of film making! "Standing at the building in New York" from the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany´s".
Besonders schön in Los Angeles sind die weiten Strände und die vielen Palmen. Der Dezember eignet sich jedoch eher nicht für einen Tag im Strandkorb oder eine Surfrunde im Pazifik.
Quite pretty in Los Angeles are the wide beaches and the many palm trees. The month of December however, is rather not the best season to spend a day in the beach chair or to go for a surf in the Pacific.
Von Los Angeles fliegen wir nach Deutschland und verbringen Weihnachten mit der Familie zu Hause.
Von Januar bis März 2020 sind wir bei Udo's Familie in Namibia! Im April 2020 geht es dann wieder auf dieser Webseite weiter!
From Los Angeles, we fly to Germany and celebrate Xmas back home with the family.
