Nicaragua 2015
Von den 129.494 qkm (entspricht der Größe Griechenlands) ist nur ein ca 100 km breiter Streifen entlang der Pazifik Küste wirklich gut erschlossen. Den Rest des Landes hat die Natur noch mehr oder weniger für sich.
From the 129,494 square km (the size of Greece) only an approx. 100 km wide range along the Pacific coast is well developed. The remainder of the country is more or less untouched nature.

Was in Costa Rica begann, setzt sich in Nicaragua fort. Vulkane reihen sich aneinander, wie Perlen auf einer Kette. Nicaragua begrüßt uns mit schönen Blicken über den Nicaragua See auf die Vulkane Maderas und Concepcion auf der Insel Ometepe.
It started in Costa Rica and carried on in Nicaragua. Volcanoes line up in a row like pearls on a necklace. Nicaragua welcomes us with stunning views on lake Nicaragua with its volcanoes Maderas and Concepcion located on Ometepe island.

Das im Kolonialstil erbaute Granada mit seiner überaus fotogenen Kirche liegt am Nicaragua See und am Fuße des Vulkan's Mombacho. Über den See und den Fluss Rio San Juan besteht ein natürlicher Zugang zur Karibik. Diese strategische Lage machte Granada in seiner Vergangenheit zu einem wichtigen Handelszentrum und einem begehrten Ziel für Piraten, die es dreimal plünderten und zerstörten.
The city of Granada, built in colonial style with its photogenic church is located near lake Nicaragua and the volcano Mombacho. Via the lake and the river Rio San Juan, Granada has a natural connection to the Caribbean Sea. Its strategic location transformed it into an important commercial centre and thus also a desired target for pirates, who marauded and destroyed it three times.

Und hier jetzt noch eine Perle - ein Vulkan, was sonst - aber dies Mal aktiv - keine Angst - der raucht nur!! Es ist der Vulkan Masaya.
And here's another highlight of our journey - a volcano, what else, but this one is an active one - but don't worry - it is "smoking" only!! It is the Masaya volcano.

Jetzt mal ein Schwenk in eine ganz andere Richtung: Zigarren!! Hier denkt jeder - wieso, die besten Zigarren kommen doch aus Kuba. Weit gefehlt - die kommen aus Nicaragua!!
Now for a change a completely different subject: cigars!! At this point most people will stop and think - why? The best cigars are from Cuba. But this is not actually the case - they are from Nicaragua.
Qualitätskontrolle: Die zwei hier rauchen acht Zigarren am Tag - und zwar die ganze Zigarre - wobei für eine Zigarre zwischen 45 - 90 Minuten gebraucht wird. Was die wohl ihren Kindern erzählen , wenn die fragen, was sie den Tag über arbeiten!!
Quality control: These two smoke eight cigars per day - they have to smoke the whole cigar - which takes between 45 - 90 minutes per cigar. Imagine what they will tell their children if asked what their job is about!!
Das hatten wir nicht gewußt: Die Produktion einer Zigarre von dem Tabakblatt bis zur fertigen Zigarre dauert fünf bis acht Jahre. Jetzt wisst ihr, warum gute Zigarren so teuer sind.....und dann werden sie in 90 Minuten geraucht oder genossen wie Zigarrenexperten es nennen.
We didn't know this: The production of one cigar from the leaf to the finished product takes five to eight years. Now you should realise why a good cigar is so expensive...and then it is puffed "away" in 90 minutes or savored as the cigar experts put it.
